Here at the school there was a parade with all the different schools with Norwegian students and an orchestra. The Norwegian ambassador in Belgium held a speech, and the Norwegian king had sent greetings to everyone celebrating 17 mai at the castle. After the speeches there was time to take part in the different competitions like the sack race, potato run and walking on stilts.

17 Mai
Gratulerer med dagen! Today is the Norwegian national day and all Norwegians in Belgium came to celebrate it here at the castle. I enjoy learning about other traditions and cultures, and it was fun to take part in 17 mai. The national day is a very important day for the Norwegians and is taken very seriously. Everyone dresses up, usually wearing the traditional "bunad" folk costume, both boys and girls. The dress varies in style and colour according to the place you come from. Then there is a rule that the children get to eat as much is (ice cream) and pølse (hotdogs) as they want to.
