Another weekend

This weekend was quite busy and I managed to do a lot of things. The weather was wonderful, around 15 degrees and sunny all day.

On Friday me, Frida and Alina went out in Waterloo to a pizza restaurant called Ciao. If anyone happens to be visiting Waterloo, this is a place I highly recommend. The place is situated in the centre of Waterloo, has a large variety of different pizzas with ingredients I haven't seen in Finland and the place itself is very cozy and the interior has a nice old-fashioned design.
After the pizza we walked back to the castle, and realised christmas has come to waterloo as the buildings on the Chaussée are decorated in twinkling lights.

Saturday morning everyone at the boarding went with the bus to Manon chocolate factory in Brussels. Belgium is famous for it's chocolate that is seen as some of the best chocolates in the world. The factory is a small place with only three employees and they make handmade chocolate and exports it to countries like Canada, Japan and Norway.
I learned a lot of things I did not know about chocolate like the fact that there is no such thing as white chocolate, it's only milk with cocoa butter.

After the visit at the chocolate factory I spent the day in town. Me and Alina had coffee at the Finnish seamen church, where you can buy Finnish food and other products. We went shopping on Avenue Louise and later that evening returned to the seamen church where they had an Au pair night for Finnish Au pairs in Belgium. We watched Hangover II and laughed a lot. It was nice meeting some Finns for a change too, and I got to practice my Finnish skills.

On Sunday I woke up early and went for a walk in Waterloo. I looked around at the popular antique market that is held every Sunday in Waterloo. If anyone is interested in antiquities that is the place to be, you can find basically anything there.

A trip into town

Yesterday I spent the day in town with Natalie and Alina. We took the train to Brussels-central which is a 20 minute trip from Waterloo. There we did almost all the things you must do or try when you're in Brussels.
First we walked from Grand Place to Mannikin Pis which is the most famous statue in Europe. Then, since Belgium is the inventor of French fries, which is kinda a misleading name, we had to try them and ate our lunch at the Mannikin Fries. Another famous Belgian food is the Belgian waffle, which is served best with Belgian chocolate in my opinion. They serve waffles all over town and it smells of waffles everywhere. We walked around, shopping and looking at things before going to the Ponti café, which is a really cozy place that serves Belgian coffee and has a great assortment of Barquettes (small baguettes), Ice cream and different desserts.
Brussels is an amazing city because it's so full of life and a lot of happenings everywhere. There are street performances with people playing instruments, singing or doing football tricks for example. A bunch of people walked around with a sign saying "Hug an exchange student today" and offered hugs to everyone they passed. And one time when we visited Brussels there was a boxing match going on outside the La Monnaie De Munt. And on top of that the city is beautiful with its amazing architecture.
